Qorikancha and Santo Domingo
At Qorikancha, Inca walls remain beneath the church and convent of Santo Domingo. The contrast makes the transformation of Cusco's sacred center visible in one place.
Why go
Qorikancha was a major Inca temple associated with the sun. The Spanish church and convent built over it, yet sections of carefully fitted masonry remain in view. Move between those walls and the colonial rooms to see two building traditions occupying the same ground; the painting collection adds another part of that story.
What to look for
Precisely fitted Inca masonry survives below the convent.
Colonial rooms include paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Useful to know
Compare the Inca walls with the later convent structure during the same visit.
Check entry for the temple and convent itself; the nearby site museum is a separate venue.
