Saqsaywaman
Saqsaywaman’s enormous zigzag walls spread across the ridge above Cusco. Allow a substantial visit to appreciate their scale and the changing view over the city.
Why go
Walking along the long walls shows how massive fitted stones define the hillside rather than simply decorate it. The site also anchors the northern archaeological circuit, making Q’enqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay a logical continuation by transport. Step back to see the zigzag line as a whole.
What to look for
Huge zigzag stone walls crown the ridge above Cusco.
Useful to know
Give the walls time on foot; plan transport for the more distant northern ruins.
