Encumeada Viewpoint
A pass at around 1,007 metres can reveal both the north and south sides of Madeira. Clear conditions make this an unusually useful stop for understanding the island’s mountain divide.
Why go
Encumeada is useful for understanding the island’s narrow mountain spine: the scenery changes as you look toward opposite coasts. Stop during an interior crossing and compare the cloud and light on each side before continuing toward the plateau or north coast.
