From the Madeira World / Places
Ponta de São Lourenço
Madeira’s eastern peninsula shows volcanic cliffs and rare species in a partial nature reserve. Choose it for an exposed, dry coastal landscape unlike the island’s green north.
The peninsula offers a drier, more open landscape than the island’s forested interior. Study the layered rock and changing sea views, and decide separately whether to take on the PR8 walking route, which needs its own access check and time allowance.
What to look for
Volcanic eastern headland
Useful to know
Expect exposed terrain and sun or wind on the peninsula; a full trail walk takes longer than a viewpoint stop.
