Santa Cruz
An east-coast town near Madeira’s airport offers a seafront and historic centre beyond its gateway role. Choose it for an east-coast town walk when arriving or departing through the airport.
If you are passing through, step away from the airport route and spend time in the town itself. The compact streets and Atlantic edge provide an immediate introduction to the east coast without committing to a long mountain detour. It works especially well as a modest first or last island stop.
