Socorro Church
A sea-facing church at the Old Town edge preserves a Namban vault linked to an earlier temple. The small interior detail rewards visitors already walking Funchal’s Old Town streets.
The vault survived the 1748 earthquake and gives the interior a specific historical detail to seek out. The church’s position near Santa Maria also makes it a natural cultural stop after walking the Old Town waterfront. This detail connects the building to a much older layer of the town.
