Arriving by car
Driving into Madrid requires advance route planning because central roads and underground junctions can be difficult to read once you are moving.
Why go
A car can help on an arrival with luggage or when continuing beyond the city, but it is less straightforward in the centre. Consecutive underground junctions can interrupt satellite navigation. Plan the last approach before entering tunnels and check current parking and traffic restrictions for your destination.
Useful to know
Set your final route before entering central tunnels, where navigation signals can drop out.
Check current parking and traffic restrictions before driving to a central hotel or attraction.
Keep an offline map or written turning sequence for complex central junctions.
