Why go
This route suits travelers who want Málaga's strongest historical sequence and can manage a sustained hill climb. Begin inside the Alcazaba, where palace rooms and defensive gates introduce the Islamic city. Continue uphill to Castillo de Gibralfaro for the broad view that connects the fortifications with the port below. Return to the centre for Málaga Cathedral, then use the public harbor promenade as an easy finish. The cathedral is optional if the two monuments take longer than expected. Carry water and avoid placing the exposed ascent in the hottest part of a summer afternoon.
