Castillo de Gibralfaro
Gibralfaro crowns Málaga's coastal hill with long ramparts and the city's broadest central panorama. The exposed climb is demanding, but the harbor views repay it.
Why go
The castle explains why this hill controlled approaches by land and sea. Walking the irregular circuit reveals the Alcazaba below, the bullring's geometry, the port and the coastline in one sweep. It works best as the upper chapter of the fortified complex, not just a viewpoint reached for one photograph.
What to look for
Ramparts circle the ridge 132 metres above the city.
The Torre Blanca projects beyond the main defensive line.
Views connect the Alcazaba, bullring, port and Mediterranean coast.
Useful to know
Take water and sun protection; shade is limited on the upper walls.
Use a bus or taxi uphill if the steep pedestrian approach would consume the visit.
