Why go
This compact central route suits a first-time visitor who wants street life, architecture and one substantial museum without crossing the city repeatedly. Start at Atarazanas while the food stalls are active, noticing how the Nasrid gate and iron hall frame a working market. Continue to Málaga Cathedral, then follow the old streets to the Church of Santiago Apóstol. Finish at Museo de Málaga, where archaeological objects reconnect the centre with much earlier settlements. The church interior depends on current religious access, so treat it as optional. The route is mostly walkable, but market timing should determine the order.
