Why go
A concert here connects Malmö’s long-running symphony orchestra with the hall built for its present chapter. The building also has permanent art in and around it, giving you something to notice before the music starts. Pick a performance that appeals to you rather than planning on an unscheduled auditorium visit.
What to look for

- Permanent artworks appear in and around the Malmö Live building.
The full story
The Malmö Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1925 and spent decades performing in the former Malmö Concert Hall in Lugnet. It moved to Malmö Live when the new complex opened in 2015. That move matters when planning a visit: the orchestra’s history reaches across two buildings, but its concert home today is Malmö Live at Dag Hammarskjölds torg. Earlier in its history, the orchestra also played for the opera; later it concentrated on symphonic concerts. The complex brings a concert hall together with other city uses, while artworks inside and outside make the approach part of the experience. A ticketed performance is the way to hear the orchestra in this setting; the older Lugnet hall belongs to an earlier chapter of the story.
Useful to know
- Check the Malmö Live programme for a performance before making the trip.
- Use Dag Hammarskjölds torg for the concert hall; the box office has a separate Fiskehamnsgatan entrance.
