Why go
The remains belonged to an aristocratic town house within Roman Melite, rather than a rural villa. Its mosaics use fine coloured pieces to create decorative and mythological scenes around a former colonnaded courtyard. Later Muslim burials on the same site show how this small patch of ground changed function over centuries.
What to look for
- Polychrome Roman mosaics
- The former peristyle courtyard
- Imperial-family statues and domestic objects
Useful to know
- Visit alongside St Paul's Catacombs to compare Roman households and burial customs.
- Use the museum as a transition between Rabat and Mdina.
