Jardin de Balata
Balata’s hillside garden brings palms, flowering plants and hummingbirds into one walk north of Fort-de-France. A suspended canopy path adds a higher view across the tropical planting.

Jean-Philippe Thoze began the garden around a Creole house in the 1980s, and the collection now spans thousands of tropical species. The paths move between densely planted sections and wider views toward the Pitons du Carbet. The canopy bridges are a separate part of the experience; visitors who dislike heights can stay on the ground paths.
What to look for
Palms, hibiscus and heliconias fill the garden.
Suspended walkways rise above the planting.
