GUM Department Store
GUM combines an operating department store with a prominent postwar building on Independence Avenue, making it an architectural stop with everyday retail activity.
The building connects Minsk's monumental avenue architecture with ordinary shopping. Its facade rewards a look from the street before you decide how much browsing to do inside. This is a more focused way to understand the avenue's commercial life than treating the entire boulevard as one long list of buildings.
