Kanheri Caves
Buddhist halls and monastic cells cut into rock inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park make this a history-focused excursion with travel through the park built in.
Kanheri shows how a Buddhist community used the hillside for worship and daily life. The larger worship halls have carved pillars and devotional imagery, while simpler cells reveal a different scale of use. Looking between them gives the complex more meaning than treating it as one decorated cave.
What to look for

Rock-cut cells associated with monastic life.
