The full story

This basalt arch stands on the Apollo Bunder waterfront, where Mumbai’s harbour setting gives the monument its scale and context. Expect an exposed outdoor stop.

Go for the direct meeting of architecture and harbour: the arch frames an arrival point that once faced visitors approaching Bombay by sea. From the waterfront, you can read its form against the open water and make it a natural starting point for nearby South Mumbai sights.

  • The basalt arch rises above the Apollo Bunder waterfront.
  • Its central dome and patterned screens add detail beyond the broad silhouette.

Allow time to view the arch from the waterfront as well as up close.

Plan for sun or rain on the exposed seafront.
