Why go
The gallery was built during the risanamento rebuilding of Naples, when civic planners paired commercial space with new monumental streets. Stand under the central dome and the crossing of its four wings becomes clear. The setting gives a quick contrast with the older royal buildings nearby.
What to look for
- The glass dome supported by iron ribs
- The zodiac mosaics and compass rose on the floor
- The monumental entrance facing Teatro di San Carlo
Useful to know
- Walk through from the San Carlo side toward Via Toledo to see how the arcade joins two busy parts of the centre.
- Check current access if you plan to pass through late in the evening.
