Feroz Shah Kotla Fort

Feroz Shah Kotla preserves parts of a fourteenth-century citadel, including an Ashokan pillar. The open ruins reward walking, but they offer little weather protection.

Feroz Shah Kotla Fort

Why go

Firoz Shah Tughlaq built the citadel for Firozabad, one of Delhi’s historic cities. The pillar, baoli, and surviving masonry show how an earlier imperial object was incorporated into a later complex. Give the site enough time to move between these separate features instead of seeing only the entrance.

What to look for

  • Ashokan pillar
  • Baoli and citadel ruins

Useful to know

  • Walk between the pillar and baoli to understand the scale of the ruined fort.
