The full story
India Gate is a monumental war memorial in central New Delhi, best visited for its inscribed sandstone arch and the open civic space around it.
The arch makes remembrance visible at the heart of the capital. Designed by Edwin Lutyens, it commemorates soldiers of the British Indian Army who died in the First World War and other campaigns. Walk close enough to read the memorial details, then step back to see its scale in the landscape.
