Why go
The approach through the garden helps explain the tomb's design. Built for Safdarjung in the mid-eighteenth century, it brings the Mughal garden-tomb tradition into a later period. Move from the gateway toward the domed mausoleum and look sideways to the named pavilions rather than stopping at the central view.
What to look for
- The axial garden leading to the domed mausoleum
- The smaller Jangli Mahal and Moti Mahal pavilions
Useful to know
- Walk the garden axis first, then explore the side pavilions for a fuller sense of the layout.
- Plan for an outdoor visit and allow daylight to see the garden geometry.
