Audubon Aquarium
Audubon Aquarium interprets Gulf, Mississippi and Caribbean ecosystems in a compact riverfront building, with the Great Maya Reef tunnel as its most immersive space.
Why go
The aquarium connects the water outside with habitats across the region. River and Gulf exhibits explain nearby ecosystems, while the Caribbean reef brings visitors into a much larger visual environment. Its indoor setting works especially well in heat or rain, though families should still allow enough time for the adjoining insectarium option.
What to look for
The walk-through Great Maya Reef tunnel
Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico ecosystems
Large marine habitats inside the riverfront building
Useful to know
Budget two to three hours if combining the aquarium and insectarium.
Check dated hours and ticket combinations before arriving; options can change.
Pair the visit with a short riverfront walk so the indoor ecology connects with the Mississippi outside.
