Why go
The square marks an old approach to Nice from Turin, and its regular façades still carry that Italian connection. Garibaldi was born in Nice and became a central figure in Italian unification, so the statue is more than decoration. Walk the perimeter to take in the arcades and the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre.
What to look for
- Ochre façades and continuous arcades.
- Statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
- Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre on the square.
Useful to know
- Circle the square to see the arcades and chapel from different sides.
- Combine it with the nearby port district for a change from civic square to waterfront.
