Why go
The square lets you see how the city centre works around its main public space. Look east towards the Council House, then take in the streets along Smithy Row, South Parade and Beast Market Hill. Events can change its appearance, but the relationship between the open square and civic frontage remains clear.
What to look for
- The Council House closes the eastern view across the square.
- The Left Lion is a recognised meeting point beside the entrance steps.
- Trams pass through the square’s city-centre setting.
Useful to know
- Combine a pause in the square with an exterior look at the Council House.
- Check city event information if your plans depend on moving across the whole square.
