Why go
Flying is convenient for long-distance arrivals, but the airport is not linked to Old Québec by rail. Compare the current public-transit route with a taxi or prearranged transfer, especially for late arrivals, luggage or a fixed check-in time. This matters most in winter.
The full story
Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport is the region's main passenger airport. It lies outside the historic centre, so arrival planning should include the ground transfer rather than ending at baggage claim. Public buses may be the lowest-cost option, but frequency, transfers and luggage make them less suitable for every flight. Taxis and app-based services simplify the trip when several people share the fare or when weather is severe. Rental cars are most useful if the itinerary continues to the Beaupré Coast or other regional destinations; they are unnecessary for a central Old Québec stay. Check the airport's official transport page and the RTC planner shortly before travel because routes and pickup arrangements can change. Keep the accommodation address ready for the driver or planner.
Useful to know
- Check the airport transport page and RTC planner before departure.
- Choose a rental car only when regional excursions justify parking it in the city.
