Why go
Use transit for outer districts and selected attractions while keeping Old Québec on foot. A bus can save a steep approach or replace parking, yet central streets are often faster to cross by walking. Confirm live routes with the Réseau de transport de la Capitale before departure.
The full story
Québec City's historic centre is compact, but the wider city spreads well beyond it. The Réseau de transport de la Capitale operates the urban bus network. Frequent corridors connect central districts, while routes to outlying attractions may run less often or change by season. Old Québec itself rewards walking because many sights sit close together, although the height difference between Upper and Lower Town is real. Use the funicular as a paid vertical connection when it suits current access. For any fixed museum entry or departure, check the RTC trip planner immediately before leaving and allow time for a transfer. Do not assume that a short map distance means a level or direct walk. Winter wind and snow can also lengthen outdoor transfers noticeably.
Useful to know
- Check the RTC trip planner on the day of travel.
- Walk within Old Québec, then use buses for attractions outside the historic core.
