Why go

This collection preserves the legacy excursion choices without pretending they fit into one continuous route. For the easiest archaeological day, pair Ostia with Ostia Antica. Tivoli and Castel Gandolfo offer separate hill-town alternatives closer to Rome, while Monte Cassino, Pompeii, Tarquinia and Assisi demand longer journeys and should each be planned independently. Select one destination based on transport time, opening access and the experience you want; the value of this day is the choice between excursions, not the number of stops completed.
