Why go
Saint Martin has more than one gateway, so an airport or port name matters when arranging a transfer. Princess Juliana, Grand Case, Philipsburg and Marigot are separate places. Sorting out the actual arrival point before choosing transport avoids building a town visit around the wrong end of the island.
The full story
Princess Juliana International Airport is on the Dutch side, close to Maho Beach. The other airport is near Grand Case in French Saint-Martin. When comparing flights or arranging a pickup, use the airport name rather than assuming that every Saint Martin arrival comes through the same terminal. Sea arrivals require the same distinction. Philipsburg is the island’s principal cruise arrival town, while Marigot has a port and marinas on the French side. A visit beginning at a cruise berth is different from one beginning at an inter-island ferry landing. Confirm the exact terminal with the operator before organizing an onward journey. Rental cars and taxis are options for linking island areas. For a sea excursion, establish both the departure point and the return arrangements before committing to other plans. A map can then help you combine town visits around the gateway you are actually using.
Useful to know
- Check the operator’s current terminal and timetable before planning any ferry connection.
- Agree the pickup location by airport or port name when booking an island transfer.
