Kapuzinerberg
Kapuzinerberg rises directly above Salzburg's right-bank Old Town. Steep paths, woodland, old walls and several viewpoints make it an accessible city hike with real elevation.
Why go
The hill offers a quick change from crowded lanes to forest without leaving central Salzburg. Routes climb past defensive walls and the Capuchin monastery before opening toward Mönchsberg, the fortress and distant peaks. Pick your ascent and descent in advance, since the steep stairways and paths emerge in different parts of the city.
What to look for
Wooded paths climb above the right-bank roofs and Salzach.
Old defensive walls and viewpoints appear along several route options.
Useful to know
Wear shoes with grip and avoid unlit forest paths after dark.
