Outdoor walks and façade observations. Interior admission is not included.

The full story

Alter Markt is a narrow historic market square lined with tall townhouses, old shopfronts and a central fountain. It rewards a slow look beyond Getreidegasse.

The square shows how commerce, domestic architecture and public space fit together in Salzburg's dense Old Town. Look up at the narrow facades, then notice the Florian Fountain and passages at street level. It is compact and often busy, so fold it into a walking route rather than scheduling it alone.

  • Tall, narrow facades compress the historic square.
  • The Florian Fountain anchors the center among long-standing shopfronts.

Walk through early for clearer architecture views, then continue toward Getreidegasse or Residenzplatz.
