Why go
The cathedral gives physical scale to the power once held by Salzburg's prince-archbishops. Its marble-fronted facade opens into a clear, monumental interior where the dome, organs and baptismal font compete for attention. Mozart was baptized here, but the building rewards more than musical pilgrimage: the archaeological remains also reveal earlier churches on the same site.
What to look for
- The dome and paired towers organize views across Domplatz.
- Multiple organs and a historic baptismal font connect architecture with Salzburg's music story.
Useful to know
- Check service times before visiting and keep the archaeological excavations as a separate short stop.
