The park preserves Concepción, San José, San Juan and Espada as distinct places, so it reveals more of mission life than a single church stop can. At San José, convento arches, a granary, grist mill and living quarters show how the community functioned. The Alamo belongs to the wider World Heritage grouping but lies outside this national park.
What to look for
Four separate missions form the national historical park.
San José retains convento arches, a granary, grist mill and living quarters.
The Mission Reach trail links the mission sites.
Useful to know
Choose one or two missions for a shorter visit, or plan transport and more time to connect all four.
Use Mission San José's visitor center as an orientation point, not as the location of the whole park.
Confirm grounds and building access before a time-critical visit; hours differ among park areas.
