The building is one of the last visible remnants of the Presidio San Antonio de Béjar. Its rooms and courtyard put the city's military and domestic colonial history on a human scale, especially after the larger mission sites. The name is grander than the building's original role: it was a commandant's home and office.
What to look for
The former commandant's residence survives from the presidio.
A courtyard is part of the historic visit.
Useful to know
Combine it with nearby Historic Market Square for two very different views of the old downtown.
