Golubac Fortress
Golubac Fortress rises directly above the Danube at the entrance to the Đerdap gorge. Its steep terrain makes route choice an important part of the visit.
The walls follow the rock so closely that the defenses and landscape are best understood together. Towers at different heights show how control of the river crossing shaped the site. You can appreciate the lower fortress without assuming that every upper section will suit your fitness or the day's conditions.
