The full story

Belgrade's fortress combines stone ramparts, park paths and broad views over the meeting of the Sava and Danube. Allow time to walk beyond the main gates.

The site explains why a city grew on this particular ridge. Follow the changes between the Upper and Lower Town, then look out toward the river confluence. The layered defenses make more sense as a walk through a landscape than as a single monument viewed from its entrance.

  • Upper and Lower Town defenses
  • The Sava–Danube confluence
  • Gates and stone ramparts

Wear shoes suited to uneven stone paths.

Treat ticketed interiors as separate choices within the fortress visit.
