Studenica Monastery
Studenica's white marble church and medieval frescoes justify a dedicated journey into the valley southwest of Kraljevo. Give the monastery more time than a brief roadside stop.
The complex brings together Romanesque stone carving and Byzantine religious painting within a medieval Serbian foundation. The Church of the Virgin and the smaller King's Church offer different scales and decorative experiences. Looking at both helps explain why Studenica has such importance within Serbia's architectural and artistic heritage.
