Why go
Qibao is the clearest anchor for a visitor interested in Minhang’s older character. Its riverside houses, bluestone paths and temple contrast with the district’s modern residential and industrial landscape. Elsewhere, Xinzhuang and Hongqiao serve different purposes, so the district is most useful as a planning area.
What to look for
- Qibao Old Street has white walls, dark tiles and riverside houses.
- Puhuitang Bridge links the old-town streets across the water.
- Qibao Temple gives the town its name, meaning “seven treasures.”
Useful to know
- Focus an old-town visit on Qibao Old Street, Puhuitang Bridge and Qibao Temple.
- Allow 2–3 hours for the Qibao old-street and temple combination.
- Plan Hongqiao and Xinzhuang separately; Minhang is too large for one continuous neighborhood walk.
