Sri Mariamman Temple
Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple is an active place of worship in Chinatown, marked by a sculpted gateway on South Bridge Road.
Why go
The layered figures on the gopuram announce a temple that has served the Tamil Hindu community since the nineteenth century. Seeing it beside Masjid Jamae reveals the close presence of different faiths in this part of Chinatown. The gateway also gives an immediate visual introduction before you enter the working compound.
