Why go
This route follows Sydney's western harbour from reclaimed public shoreline to working maritime history. Begin at Barangaroo Reserve, where sandstone landscape design reconnects the headland with the water. Continue along the foreshore to the Australian National Maritime Museum for galleries and one chosen vessel. Finish on Cockatoo Island / Wareamah, whose convict precinct and shipyard structures require at least two hours. Ferry timing controls the sequence, and the museum plus island can fill a day, so keep the Barangaroo walk concise and check all closures before departure.
