Why go
The township was an important Taiwan Strait port in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. That history gives its temples and older streets a context distinct from nearby Changhua City. Spend time with the port-town fabric instead of looking for a working harbor experience; the historic trade role is the point.
What to look for
- Historic streets of the former port township
- A west-coast setting facing the Taiwan Strait
- The old name linked to the deerskin trade
Useful to know
- Walk between the older streets and temples to understand the town as a whole.
- Pair it with Changhua City for a regional contrast, but give Lukang enough time beyond a single temple.
