New Taipei City
New Taipei surrounds Taipei City and reaches from the metropolitan basin to northern coast and hills. The municipality is best explored as several separate outings.
Its scale explains why places with a “Taipei” address can feel entirely different. Jiufen’s steep mining streets, coastal districts and the Yangmingshan edge all lie beyond the capital’s compact center. New Taipei is useful for adding a specific landscape or historic settlement to a city-based trip, rather than trying to survey the municipality in one day.
