Why go
The National Palace Museum, Longshan Temple, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Taipei 101 tell very different stories. Their variety is Taipei’s strength: imperial collections, active worship, twentieth-century state memory and a contemporary skyline. Use the city as a base for these contrasts, then consider nearby Beitou or Yangmingshan for a change of terrain.
What to look for
- National Palace Museum’s imperial collections
- Longshan Temple’s active devotional halls
- Taipei 101 above the city basin
Useful to know
- Choose a museum-and-temple day or a skyline-and-neighborhood day rather than crossing the city for every landmark.
- Treat Yangmingshan and New Taipei’s coast as separate outings from the urban core.
