Sansiantai
An eight-arched pedestrian bridge leads from Taiwan’s east coast to Sansiantai’s rocky island. Ocean views and wave-cut volcanic forms make the crossing the point of the visit.
Why go
The bridge’s long curve draws you out over the water, while the island has sea stacks, potholes and other erosion features. It is one of Taitung’s strongest places to see how the Pacific shapes the shore. The walk is exposed, so leave it for a day when wind and rain make the crossing comfortable.
What to look for
Eight-arched footbridge
Volcanic island and ocean landforms
Useful to know
Allow extra time for the bridge walk; the island is reached on foot.
