Wenwu Temple

Wenwu Temple sits above Sun Moon Lake with broad water views behind its halls. Its three-part layout brings several traditions into one striking lakeside site.

Wenwu Temple

Why go

The temple was built after older lakeside shrines had to move when the reservoir rose. Moving through the halls reveals different deities and a large Confucius figure; climbing toward the rear view connects the story back to the lake. Visit for both the religious architecture and its commanding setting.

What to look for

  • Temple terraces above Sun Moon Lake
  • Lake and mountain outlook

Useful to know

  • Continue toward the rear terrace if you want the lake view as well as the temple halls.
