Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is a northern base for striking modern temple art and regional history. Wat Rong Khun, Wat Rong Suea Ten and Baan Dam Museum are separate stops rather than one compact temple quarter.
Wat Rong Khun’s white design, the blue-and-gold hall at Wat Rong Suea Ten and Baan Dam’s darker art make a useful visual contrast. The area also carries the history of King Mangrai’s early northern capital. Plan the named sites as individual visits, checking their locations before choosing a route through the city and its outskirts.
What to look for
Wat Rong Khun is known for its white temple design.
Wat Rong Suea Ten centers on a blue-and-gold hall.
Baan Dam Museum adds an art-focused contrast to the temples.
Useful to know
Map the three named sights before departure; they are not one walkable compound.
