Castello del Valentino stands in the river park that shares its name. The Savoy residence took much of its present form under Christine Marie of France in the seventeenth century. Its broad court and towers give it a different silhouette from the urban palaces in central Turin. Later uses changed the building’s role, and it now houses architecture teaching at Politecnico di Torino. That continuing institutional use matters to a visit: the castle’s exterior can be appreciated independently from the park, while the historic interiors are seen on arranged guided tours.
