Why go
This compact route suits a first visit focused on Istanbul’s Byzantine and Ottoman layers. The Hippodrome sets the outdoor scene before the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia bring you inside two very different monumental spaces. The Basilica Cistern then shifts the story underground. Leave the largest block of time for Topkapı Palace: its rooms and courtyards take more attention than a quick photo stop. The sites are close enough to connect on foot, but five substantial visits make this a full day. Check current visitor access at the religious sites before setting out.

Topkapı Palace
Topkapı is a large palace visit rather than a single room: courtyards, collections and views reveal how the Ottoman court occupied this promontory.
