The full story
East Vancouver rewards corridor-based browsing rather than a single shopping destination. Commercial Drive combines produce shops, cafés, books, gifts and everyday services in a walkable strip shaped by successive immigrant communities. Main Street changes character as it runs south: around Mount Pleasant, independent clothing, design, records and homeware sit among restaurants and coffee shops; farther south, the Punjabi Market area reflects a long South Asian commercial history, though its retail mix continues to evolve. These streets are more useful for discovering local businesses than hunting a fixed list of stores, since tenants and opening hours change frequently. Pick one corridor, arrive during the day and leave room for a meal. Downtown Robson Street and CF Pacific Centre are better for concentrated international brands, while Granville Island is stronger for food, craft studios and market browsing. Confirm any must-visit shop directly before crossing the city.
