The full story
Cobblestone-style streets, brick warehouses and independent businesses give Vancouver’s oldest commercial district a compact, atmospheric walk beside the working port.
Gastown is best approached as an architecture-and-streetscape district rather than a single landmark. Walk beyond the Steam Clock to notice restored warehouses, narrow frontages and the shift toward the working port. Its proximity to Waterfront Station makes it simple to combine with Canada Place and Chinatown.
- Brick warehouse façades along Water Street
- The Steam Clock as a popular gathering point
- Views and urban texture near the port edge
Go early for clearer views of the streetscape; the Steam Clock area becomes congested.
Remain aware of rapidly changing street conditions on the eastern edge of the district.
Use Waterfront Station for the simplest transit connection.
