Why go
MOA offers a rare combination of powerful Indigenous art, visible collections and a building designed around sea-and-mountain views. The Great Hall’s large-scale carvings command attention, but the Multiversity Galleries reward slower looking. Approach the material as living cultural heritage, not simply historic decoration.
What to look for
- Monumental Northwest Coast carvings in the Great Hall
- Dense visible storage in the Multiversity Galleries
- Arthur Erickson architecture oriented toward the landscape
Useful to know
- Allow at least two hours; the visible collections are far denser than the Great Hall alone suggests.
- Check the official site for current exhibitions, admission and any gallery closures before travelling to UBC.
- Combine the museum with the nearby university campus or Pacific Spirit trails, not a rushed downtown stop.
