Why go
This day works well for visitors who like a mix of open air and museums with little travel between stops. The red-brick Arc de Triomf sets up the 1888 exhibition story that continues in Parc de la Ciutadella. At El Born, look across the archaeological remains beneath the former market hall; access to the excavation itself is a separate guided visit. Museu Picasso then shifts the focus to art along Montcada Street. End at Santa Maria del Mar for a different expression of Catalan Gothic architecture. Give the Picasso collection the longest stop and check museum and basilica visiting times before setting out.
